Booker Brings creates a two-way friendship that makes reading feel more personal and fun for anyone that needs a little encouragement -- either reading or helping someone to read.
Meet Booker, a kind and curious garden turtle who delivers more than just books — he delivers a love of reading. With Booker, reading becomes a personal adventure, sparked by imagination, curiosity, and choice.
How it begins.
It starts with one quiet meeting — in a garden, on a porch, or anywhere that makes sense for a child to discover something new.
He visits while the child sleeps, leaving behind books, notes, and small sparks of encouragement.
The child writes back. A quiet exchange begins. And over time, reading becomes more than a task — it becomes self-discovery, a journey, and a personal connection.
From that moment on, Booker the garden turtle, becomes part of their world. Bringing them even much more than books.
The story.
As little ones sleep, Booker leaves behind carefully chosen books, gentle notes of encouragement, and reading ideas that speak to them. He knows that reading isn't always easy — and that not every story fits every reader. Booker’s magic lies in helping children explore stories on their own terms, building confidence, joy, and a lifelong reading habit.
While adults may see only a quiet turtle nestled in fairy gardens or perched beside a cozy sofa, children know the secret: At night, Booker comes alive. He frequently visits — maybe once a week, maybe more — leaving behind books and stories, encouraging notes, and the start of a reading conversation. Children can write back, building a quiet tradition of self-discovery, curiosity, and reflection.
Booker is more than a turtle.
He’s a friend who meets young readers right where they are — encouraging in ways that help them fall in love with books, one story at a time.
Booker is on your family's schedule and can easily adapt to your household's routine and flow.
This makes reading something to look forward to — not something that’s scheduled or forced. Or an added stress for parents!
The inspiration behind Booker.
For many of us as adults, reading feels second nature. But teaching children to read — and more importantly, to love reading — isn’t always so intuitive.
From the time our daughters were babies, my husband and I made books a part of our everyday life. We filled the house with stories to flip through and cherished our nightly bedtime reading ritual. But as our schedules got busier and screens became more enticing, it became harder to keep books at the center of our children’s day.
The idea of Booker was born the moment we noticed how enchanted our 6-year-old was with her fairy garden. She would spend hours playing, imagining, and thinking about what she’d learned from the fairies — tales of worms, rocks, and not-so-imaginary wisdom. And we thought, If she wants to listen and learn from fairies… why not incorporate books into the fun?
The very next day, Booker the book-loving turtle joined our garden with a book and note. And from there, a beautiful new reading adventure and friendship began.
